Who may be included in another's עירוב, and how much food an עירוב requires
Overview
The amud opens by finishing the question of how long a child counts as 'needing his mother' for her עירוב. רב יהושע בריה דרב אידי's narrow reading of רב אסי is refuted by a ברייתא that sets the age at six. רב אסי survives because 'עד' includes six. The ברייתא is reconciled with רבי ינאי and ריש לקיש by whether the father is in town. Two ברייתות then teach that a man may make an עירוב for his minor children and כנעני servants without their knowledge, because 'their hand is like his hand.' His wife, adult children and עברי servants need their knowledge. The גמרא shows that silence counts as consent, and that making one's own עירוב is the strongest protest. A new משנה sets the עירוב food at two meals per person and records several opinions on how big those meals are. The גמרא rules like רבי מאיר, and it explains why the measures of רבי יוחנן בן ברוקה and רבי שמעון are 'close to equal' by deducting the grocer's profit.

אָמַר רַב יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בְּרֵיהּ דְּרַב אִידִי:
Rav Yehoshua, son of Rav Idi, said:
כִּי קָאָמַר רַב אַסִּי —
When Rav Asi said his ruling,
כְּגוֹן שֶׁעֵירַב עָלָיו אָבִיו לַצָּפוֹן
it was, for example, where his father made an eiruv for him to the north
וְאִמּוֹ לַדָּרוֹם,
and his mother made one for him to the south,
