Topic
Which flawed גיטין bar a woman from marrying a כהן, and the debate over ברירה (retroactive clarification), including whether it matters if the choice rests on oneself or on others.
Overview
The amud opens with the end of a ברייתא: a חליצה done by a minor, or done with a soft cloth shoe, is invalid and does not disqualify the woman. The גמרא then returns to the flawed גיטין of our משנה. זעירי and רב אסי say none of them bar the woman from marrying a כהן, except the last case, where the husband left open which wife the גט was for. רבי יוחנן says even that case does not bar her, because he does not accept ברירה. The same view shows up in his ruling that brothers who split an inheritance count as buyers. The גמרא explains why he needed to say both rulings. רב הושעיא then asks about a גט for whichever wife leaves the door first. רב יהודה answers from our משנה, and a challenge from a father's קרבן פסח is pushed aside, because there the race was only to make the children eager. Finally, אביי, רבא and רב משרשיא debate whether ברירה depends on whether the choice rests on oneself or on others. The proof from רבי יהודה continues on the next amud.
