Conditions on a גט: תנאי כפול, changing conditions, and the משנה of 'if I do not return within thirty days'
Overview
This amud first closes the earlier debate between רבא and רב אשי. רבא explains both clauses of the משנה, but רב אשי is left with a קשיא. A ברייתא then brings a dispute about conditions: רבי מאיר says a condition counts only if it is stated both ways (תנאי כפול), while the חכמים say a simple 'on condition that' is enough. רבן שמעון בן גמליאל notes that every condition in the Torah is doubled, and the גמרא gives two versions of whom he was arguing against. A second ברייתא seems to flip both sides. The גמרא resolves it: רבי מאיר's case had a doubled condition, and the 'חכמים' there are really רבן שמעון בן גמליאל, who says a block not caused by the woman does not stop the גט. Another ברייתא teaches that a second, different condition gives her a choice, while a higher money demand cancels the first, and witnesses from different pairs cannot be joined. A new משנה then deals with 'if I do not come back within thirty days' and a husband who reaches a border town and returns. The גמרא begins asking whether אנטיפרס is in the גליל, citing a ברייתא that continues on the next amud.

the first clause is where he did not specify,
סֵיפָא דְּפָרֵישׁ.
the latter clause is where he did specify.
אֶלָּא לְרַב אָשֵׁי –
