Overview

The גמרא first settles a contradiction in רבי שמעון's view of the כהן משיח. One statement is about a poor person's offering (דלות), and the other is about a very poor person's offering (דלי דלות). חזקיה then finds a source for why the כהן גדול is not liable for טומאת מקדש: the words 'מתוך הקהל'. After challenges from the נשיא and from regular כהנים, רבא rereads that פסוק to mean someone whose sin-offering matches an ordinary person's. רבי יוחנן limits רבי אליעזר's ruling that the נשיא brings a goat to טומאת מקדש alone, and רב פפא proves this from the fact that רבי אליעזר never mentions the משיח's bull. רבי יוחנן adds that רבי אליעזר agrees the נשיא brings no אשם, so a ברייתא requiring an אשם תלוי remains a difficulty. The פרק then ends, and a new משנה asks what a כהן משיח or a נשיא brings after leaving office. The גמרא begins questioning that משנה's wording, and the discussion continues on the next amud.
