Conversion of a minor: רב הונא's rule that a בית דין may convert a child, רב יוסף's right to protest at adulthood, and new משניות on the כתובה amounts of different women
Overview
The amud opens by finishing an earlier list of word meanings: an איילונית is named after a ram, a male animal that cannot give birth. A new משנה then teaches that a גיורת, a שבויה, or a שפחה who became Jewish or free before age three gets a בתולה's full כתובה of two hundred. רב הונא rules that a בית דין may immerse a קטן for conversion, because conversion is a benefit for a child who has not yet tasted forbidden things. An attempt to prove this from the משנה is pushed away: the משנה may be about children converting together with their father. רב יוסף adds that a child convert can protest and cancel the conversion when he grows up. אביי challenges him from the משנה's כתובה, and רבא challenges him from the קנס paid for these girls. Both challenges get the same answer: the money is paid only after she grows up, and her chance to protest lasts just one moment once she becomes an adult. The גמרא explains why each אמורא chose his own source, and then a new משנה begins listing which women get a כתובה of two hundred and which get one hundred.
