The rule of the מורד and מורדת, and the minimum support a husband gives his wife through a שליש, with the גמרא's calculation of the weekly meals

Overview

The amud opens with the last words of a reason from the previous page: the rebellious spouse's payment is set so it does not look like שכר שבת. Then רבי חייא בר יוסף asks שמואל why a מורדת is penalized more than a מורד. שמואל gives two answers: a man suffers more from the lack, and his desire shows outwardly, which adds embarrassment. A new משנה follows. It lists what a husband must give a wife he supports through a שליש: grain, legumes, oil, fruit, a bed, clothing, and a silver מעה. It also sets how much wool she spins for him, eases things for a nursing wife, and says these are minimums for a poor man. The גמרא asks whose measure of a meal fits the two קבין of wheat. Using רב חסדא's rule about the storekeeper's profit, and extra meals for guests and travelers, it shows the amount can fit every opinion. It then explains רבי יוסי's comment on barley as being about the double amount, because the barley of אדום was poor. The amud ends by noting that the משנה leaves out wine, which supports רבי אלעזר. His words come on the next amud.
