Carrying out a dead person's instructions, children's transactions, and a husband's vows restricting his wife

Overview

The amud opens by finishing אילפא's answer. Our משנה, where a שליש must carry out a dead father's instructions, follows רבי מאיר, who holds it is a מצוה to fulfill a dead person's words. רב חסדא, quoting מר עוקבא, then rules that a father's sons get all they need, whether he said 'give' a shekel or 'do not give' more. The גמרא explains that the father really wants them provided for and only meant to make them careful with money. Next, רפרם limits the משנה in גיטין that young children's deals in movable goods count: this applies only when they have no אפוטרופוס. He proves it from our משנה's words 'the action of a קטנה is nothing.' With that, פרק מציאת האשה ends. The new פרק opens with a משנה about a husband who makes a נדר restricting his wife: no benefit from him, no tasting a certain fruit, or no adorning herself. Each case can require him to divorce her and pay her כתובה, with time limits that differ by opinion. The גמרא then asks how his נדר can work if he already owes her support. It begins to answer that he can tell her to feed herself from her own earnings, and the answer continues on the next amud.
