Rejecting רב יוסף's ברייתא, a יבם's promise to share the estate, and the משנה's rules about a יבמה after יבום

Overview

The amud opens by defending the ברייתא of רב יוסף: maybe it follows רבי נתן, who holds that a debtor can be made to pay his creditor's creditor directly. Then the גמרא gives the real reason to reject it. It would need two stringencies about כתובה, one from רבי מאיר and one from רבי נתן, and no תנא holds both. רבא realizes this is what אביי meant by 'this is not a משנה.' Next comes a story: a man offers to split his dead brother's property with his brother, even 'from now,' so the brother won't disqualify their יבמה with a גט. מר בר רב אשי explains that this cannot work, because before יבום the property is not his to give. Along the way the גמרא reconciles two reports of רבי יוחנן about acquiring a cow after thirty days: it depends on whether the owner said 'acquire from now.' The הלכה is that dividing the property does nothing, whether before or after יבום. The גמרא then returns to the משנה: ריש לקיש rereads the attached produce as 'hers,' and רבי יוסי ברבי חנינא explains that after יבום she is a regular wife, divorced with a גט alone. The amud ends by asking why the משנה needs to teach that he may remarry her.
