Two wives' כתובה claims in a circle, the wife's 'I only did it to please my husband' excuse, and whether a creditor may take sold land when the free land is blighted
Overview
The amud opens by finishing a story about two deeds dated in ניסן. רב יוסף shows a man why a document to collect only from אייר onward will not work, and the fix is that the two deed holders write each other a הרשאה. Then a new משנה teaches that when a man with two wives sells a field and only the first wife waives her claim to the buyer, the claims go around in a circle until they make a פשרה. The גמרא asks how a bare waiver can work, and answers that she backed it with a קנין. It then asks why she cannot say 'I only did it to please my husband,' as a משנה in גיטין allows. רב חסדא, רב פפא and רב אשי each give a different way to fit the two משניות together. A new question follows: if the debtor's free land gets blighted, may a creditor take land he already sold? The גמרא tries to prove the answer from רבי מאיר's ruling and from רבא's ברייתא about 'I left you a place to collect from.' It rejects the proof, because there the person lost his rights by his own action. The amud ends as רב יימר begins to speak to רב אשי, and his words come on the next amud.
