Overview

The amud opens by finishing a question: why may a father sell his daughter as a slave after her marriage, if he may not sell her after an earlier slavery? רב נחמן בר יצחק explains that the ברייתא allowing it follows רבי אליעזר. Next, ריש לקיש asks whether a master can do יעוד, designating an אמה העבריה as a wife, for his minor son. רבי זירא brings a proof from the פסוק about adultery, and רב אשי pushes it aside. The גמרא then settles the question with רבי ינאי's ruling: יעוד works only with an adult and only with consent. The גמרא gives two ways to explain why the consent is needed. One way ties it to רבי יוסי ברבי יהודה, who holds that the original sale money was not given for קידושין. The other way, from רב נחמן בר יצחק, learns it straight from the words of the פסוק. Finally, רב נחמן learns two new rulings from רבי יוסי ברבי יהודה's view. A father may tell his minor daughter to accept her own קידושין, and קידושין made with a loan that has a משכון is valid.
