The end of the dispute between אביי and רבא about קידושין שאין מסורין לביאה, and רב's lessons from the משנה of the five women, especially about betrothing with a stolen item.
Overview
The amud opens by finishing a ברייתא about two brothers who betrothed two sisters without knowing which was whose. The גמרא adds that חליצה must come before יבום. Then a ברייתא from טביומי, 'one of your daughters is betrothed to one of my sons,' shows that a betrothal which can never lead to living together is still valid. That refutes רבא, and the גמרא rules like אביי in six cases, remembered by the sign יע"ל קג"ם. Next, רב draws lessons from the משנה of the five women. A man may betroth with שביעית fruit, but not with a stolen item, even one stolen from her. A woman can also act as an agent for her future צרה. רב was unsure of a fourth lesson because it depends on the dispute between אביי and רבא. רבי יוחנן is pleased that רב agrees with him that a stolen item is not the robber's. Finally, a ברייתא saying stolen money works for קידושין is explained as being only about a coin grabbed from the woman herself.
Opening lines
הָאֶחָד חוֹלֵץ לִשְׁתֵּיהֶן,
the one brother performs חליצה with both of them,
וְהַשְּׁנַיִם – אֶחָד חוֹלֵץ וְאֶחָד מְיַבֵּם.
and of the two brothers, one performs חליצה and one performs יבום.
אִם קָדְמוּ וְכָנְסוּ –
If they went ahead and married them first,
אֵין מוֹצִיאִין אוֹתָן מִיָּדָם.
we do not take them out of their hands.
