Whether טובת הנאה has monetary value, betrothal with מי חטאת and אפר פרה, and the opening משנה of the new פרק about a second man's betrothal

Overview

The amud opens with the end of a story. רב הונא tells רבי חייא בר אבין 'הוצאה את', which embarrasses him, and then explains it was a compliment: רב אסי of הוצל agrees with him. The גמרא tries to show that whether טובת הנאה is worth money is a dispute between רבי and רבי יוסי ברבי יהודה about a thief who steals טבל. It rejects the proof several ways: unseparated gifts inherited from a grandfather who was a כהן, שמואל's rule that one grain exempts a pile, or a rabbinic penalty on the thief or on the owner. Next the גמרא asks how our משנה lets a man betroth with מי חטאת and אפר פרה, when a ברייתא says that taking pay for sprinkling makes them worthless. אביי answers that the משנה means pay for bringing and filling the water, and the wording of both sources supports him. The פרק הָאִישׁ מְקַדֵּשׁ ends, and a new משנה teaches when a second man's betrothal takes effect and when the result is a doubt. The גמרא adds that an agent who betroths the woman for himself acted deceitfully, and it begins a question about the משנה's wording that continues on the next amud.
