Conditions of 'על מנת' in גיטין and קידושין: the רב הונא / רב יהודה dispute, and the משנה's conditions about owning or showing money and land.

Overview

The amud opens by asking how רב הונא ('על מנת' works from now) and רב יהודה (it works only when the condition is kept) differ in practice. The answer is a גט that was torn or lost before she paid. The גמרא explains why their dispute had to be stated for both קידושין and גירושין. Two ברייתות seem to refute רב יהודה. He answers that they follow רבי, and he rules like the רבנן. רבי זירא then reports that in ארץ ישראל, רבי יוחנן taught that everyone agrees about 'על מנת'. In that view the argument is only about 'מהיום ולאחר מיתה', and רב יהודה explains this with the rule כח דהיתרא עדיף. The גמרא then works through the משנה's conditions about having or showing money and land. It explains doubtful קידושין, why both money and land are taught, and why she means only his own property. The amud ends by starting to quote a משנה about הקדש, which continues on the next amud.
