Finishing the ברייתא about a lost חטאת, רבא's rulings on מעילה and leftover money, and the משנה on when items burned entirely on the מזבח become subject to מעילה, פסול, נותר, טמא and פיגול

Overview

The amud opens by finishing an earlier discussion: the first half of a ברייתא about a lost חטאת follows רבי שמעון, and the second half follows רבנן. A tradition from אביי backs up this split. Next, רבא says everyone agrees there is no מעילה for benefiting from impure meat of קדשי קדשים before זריקה, or from the אימורין of קדשים קלים once they are on the altar. A leftover מצוה to burn them or turn them on the fire does not make them subject to מעילה. רבא then rules that the money goes to ים המלח only if the person learned of his מעילה before his כפרה. If he learned after, the money goes to נדבה, because we never set money aside just to destroy it. A new משנה follows. מעילה applies to items that go entirely to the מזבח, like the קומץ, לבונה and קטורת, from the moment they are declared holy. Once they are placed in a כלי שרת, they can become פסול and carry liability for נותר and טמא, but not for פיגול. The משנה ends with a general rule: items that have מתירין carry these liabilities only after the מתירין are offered, while items without מתירין carry them as soon as they enter the vessel, and פיגול never applies to them.
