When sprinkling the blood (זריקה) still works for parts of an offering that are gone or left the courtyard, according to רבי עקיבא, and the limits on his rule.
Overview
The amud opens with רב אסי's proof that, according to רבי עקיבא, sprinkling the blood still works even when the parts of the offering are gone. His proof is a ברייתא saying a wrong intention can make an offering פיגול even about fats that were already lost or burned. The גמרא challenges him from his own teaching about אלל, as רבי זירא used it to answer a question רב אסי asked רבי יוחנן. That teaching implies that blood headed for loss counts as not there, so an intention about it does nothing. רבא solves the problem by rereading the ברייתא as talking about parts that are about to be lost or burned but still exist. Next, רב פפא limits רבי עקיבא's rule to a case where the meat left the courtyard, not the blood, and a ברייתא supports him. רבי אלעזר says רבי עקיבא's comparison case works only when both animals were slaughtered at the same time. Finally, a ברייתא tells how רבי שמעון's colleagues objected that sprinkling cannot help something פסול. רבי עקיבא begins answering with the case of a lost חטאת that was replaced and then found, and his answer continues on the next amud.
