Overview

This amud opens with the end of a ברייתא: when extra loaves were brought with the שבועות sheep, the extra loaves are eaten after פדיון. The רבנן ask רב חסדא how this can fit רבי, who holds that שחיטה makes the loaves fully holy. Redeeming outside the עזרה would make the holy loaves פסול as יוצא, and redeeming inside seems to bring חולין into the עזרה. רב חסדא answers that it is done inside, because the loaves become חולין on their own and nobody brought them in. A ברייתא saying redemption happens only outside is assigned to רבי אלעזר ברבי שמעון. Next, the גמרא checks whether the ברייתא refutes רבי יוחנן about a תודה with eighty loaves, and answers with רבי זירא: everyone agrees when the owner said which loaves should become holy. Then רבי חנינא טירתא teaches that if four sheep were slaughtered for the two loaves, two are sprinkled שלא לשמן so the others are not lost. רבי יוחנן objects that we don't say 'sin so that you may gain'. The answers limit that rule to the same offering and the same day. The amud ends with a new challenge from a משנה about a broken barrel of תרומה, which continues on the next amud.
