Overview

The גמרא finishes the discussion of רבי יוסי ברבי חנינא, who said a נזיר whose days are complete is lashed only for טומאה. It explains that טומאה is special because of a פסוק. Then a ברייתא says he is lashed for wine, shaving and טומאה alike, so his view is refuted (תיובתא). A new משנה follows: a man vowed to be a נזיר when he has a son, and also took on a 100-day נזירות. If the son is born up to day seventy he loses nothing, but after seventy the seventy days are cancelled, because a תגלחת needs at least thirty days. רב rules that day seventy counts for both terms. The גמרא tests this against the משנה and concludes that the משנה disagrees with רב. It then asks whose view רב follows. It suggests אבא שאול and begins quoting a source about mourning cut short by a רגל; the source continues on the next amud.
