Overview

This amud opens by finishing a ברייתא about a נזיר who became טמא. The רבנן learn from the פסוק that his new נזירות starts even before he brings his אשם. רבי ישמעאל בנו של רבי יוחנן בן ברוקה says it starts only once he brings it. רב חסדא explains a ברייתא about a woman whose husband cancelled her נזירות after she became טמאה: she brings the bird חטאת but not the bird עולה. This follows רבי ישמעאל, who holds the husband uproots the vow. The חטאת is still brought because he follows רבי אלעזר הקפר, who teaches that every נזיר is a sinner for holding back from wine. The גמרא then returns to the משנה about a person who became a נזיר in a cemetery. שמואל explains that his days count only after he left and fully purified himself. Even if he then went back in, his נזירות had already taken effect. Finally, עולא limits רבי אליעזר's rule that one day is not enough to count as 'first days': it applies only to someone who vowed while already טמא.
