Does a husband's הפרה uproot his wife's נזירות from the start (מיעקר עקר) or only cut it off from now on (מיגז גייז)? Proofs from the annulled טמאה נזירה and from the friend who said 'and I'.
Overview
This amud asks whether a husband's הפרה of his wife's נזירות uproots the vow from the start (מיעקר עקר) or only cuts it off from now on (מיגז גייז). It opens by closing an earlier point: the תנא wrote 'סופגת' in the first clause of the משנה only to match the second clause. Next the גמרא brings a ברייתא about a נזירה who became טמאה before her husband annulled her vow. She brings a חטאת העוף but no עולת העוף, which seems to show that the vow was uprooted. The גמרא objects: if the vow was uprooted, why bring even the חטאת? It answers that this ברייתא follows רבי אלעזר הקפר, who holds that a נזיר is called a 'sinner' just for denying himself wine. So the חטאת is for the vow itself. Then the גמרא brings a ברייתא that says it clearly: if a friend joined a woman's vow by saying 'and I,' and the first woman's husband annulled her vow, the friend stays bound. This shows that the husband only cuts the vow off. The ברייתא ends with רבי שמעון: if the friend said 'I am hereby like you,' both women are freed.
