When a נזיר's unassigned money (מעות סתומין) goes to נדבה, and what counts as assigned money (מפורשין)

Overview

The amud opens at the end of a challenge. The rule that a dead person's unassigned money (מעות סתומין) goes to נדבה seemed special to a נזיר, yet a ברייתא applies it to people who owe bird-pairs (קינין). The גמרא answers that the משנה taught נזיר, and cases like קינין share the rule because they are similar. The limit is meant to exclude a different ברייתא. There, someone owes a חטאת for a sin and also vowed an unrelated עולה, and his unassigned money must be thrown into ים המלח. Next, רב אשי explains when money counts as assigned (מפורשין): even if the owner named the חטאת, עולה, and שלמים together in one sentence. A second version of רב אשי goes further: even saying 'for my obligation' is enough. Finally, רבא limits the נדבה rule. If the חטאת money has already been separated out, the remaining money counts as assigned.
