Why פסוקים are needed for ולד חטאת and תמורת אשם despite a הלכה, what ״אָשָׁם הוּא״ teaches according to רב, and a challenge to רבי יוחנן's rule about a נזיר.
Overview
The amud opens by finishing an earlier point: the פסוק teaches that offspring of קדשים such as שלמים are offered, not left to die. Next, a ברייתא uses the word ״רַק״ to teach that ולד חטאת and תמורת אשם are not offered on the מזבח. The גמרא asks why a פסוק is needed when a הלכה למשה מסיני already covers both cases. It answers that the הלכה tells us what to do with the animal, and the פסוק adds that someone who offers it anyway breaks an עשה. Then רבי עקיבא learns the rule from ״אָשָׁם הוּא״, and the גמרא asks the same question about his source. The answer is that ״הוּא״ teaches the rule behind רב's ruling: an אשם that was sent to graze is valid if slaughtered as an עולה, but before that it is not valid. Finally, the גמרא goes back to רבי יוחנן's statement that a certain rule is a הלכה about a נזיר. It starts to challenge him with a ברייתא about others who bring pairs of birds, which continues on the next עמוד.
