Overview

The amud opens by explaining a dispute in the previous משנה about when a husband loses the power to annul his wife's נזירות. The תנא קמא says it is once the blood is sprinkled, because from then on she may drink wine and no longer suffers. רבי עקיבא says it is once an animal is slaughtered, because annulling would cause הפסד קדשים. רבי זירא challenges this with a ברייתא about the כבשי עצרת: the blood could be sprinkled שלא לשמה, and then the meat would still be eaten. The גמרא answers that רבי עקיבא is speaking of a case where the חטאת was slaughtered first, and a חטאת cannot be saved that way. The משנה then limits the whole rule to a תגלחת טהרה. רבי מאיר says the husband may annul even then, because he does not want a shaven wife; the two sides disagree over whether a wig solves the problem. A new משנה teaches that a father can make his young son a נזיר but a mother cannot, and explains what happens to the son's animals and money if the נזירות is cancelled. The גמרא asks why only a father has this power. רבי יוחנן answers that it is a special הלכה for נזיר, and רבי יוסי ברבי חנינא's answer continues on the next amud.
