Is כזית בכדי אכילת פרס דאורייתא? אביי challenges רב דימי from כותח and from 'שאני אומר' in mixtures of תרומה
Overview
רב דימי had taught that permitted food joins forbidden food to reach the minimum amount only in the laws of a נזיר. אביי challenges this from a source that speaks of a כזית in a mixture. רב דימי answers that the source means a real כזית of the forbidden food eaten within the time of אכילת פרס, and he confirms that this measure is דאורייתא. אביי asks why, then, the רבנן disagree with רבי אלעזר about כותח הבבלי. רב דימי explains that with כותח you never actually eat a כזית of חמץ in that time. אביי then brings a ברייתא about two spice mortars and two pots, where we rely on 'שאני אומר' to permit both. רב דימי first shows that the question bothers every view. He then answers that תרומה of spices is only rabbinic. אביי brings a similar ברייתא about baskets of regular produce, and רב דימי's reply comes on the next amud.
