When a טמא נזיר may bring his offerings: רבי עקיבא and רבי טרפון on a late shave, רבא on immersion, and אביי's challenge about immersion and sunset
Overview
The משנה describes the shaving of a נזיר who became טמא from a dead body. He is sprinkled on the third and seventh days, shaves on the seventh, and brings his offerings on the eighth. רבי עקיבא rules that even if he shaves late, on the eighth, he brings his offerings that same day. רבי טרפון challenges this from a מצורע, who must wait a day. רבי עקיבא answers that the נזיר's purity depends on his days, while the מצורע's purity depends on his shaving. The גמרא asks whether רבי טרפון accepted this, and a teaching of הלל seems to show he did not. רבא answers that הלל speaks of a נזיר who did not immerse on the seventh. אביי then reports that the group of רב נתן בר הושעיא read the פסוק about a זב to mean he may come with his offerings only after immersing and waiting for sunset, and he challenges them that the same reading would apply to the impure נזיר. That discussion continues on the next amud.
