What a נזיר's טומאה after one offering undoes, and who should become טמא for a מת מצוה: a כהן גדול or a נזיר

Overview

The amud opens with a משנה about a נזיר who becomes טמא after the blood of one of his end-of-term offerings has already been sprinkled. רבי אליעזר says the טומאה is סותר everything. The חכמים say he brings the rest of his offerings, and they back this up with the story of מרים התרמודית. The גמרא asks how this fits with רבי אליעזר's own rule elsewhere, that טומאה after the term undoes only seven days. רב answers that 'everything' here means all the offerings, not the days of נזירות. The wording of the חכמים and the story of מרים both support רב's answer. After the הדרן for פרק שלשה מינין, a new משנה teaches that a כהן גדול and a נזיר may not become טמא even for relatives, but must become טמא for a מת מצוה. If both of them find one together, רבי אליעזר says the כהן גדול should become טמא, because a נזיר would have to bring a קרבן. The חכמים say the נזיר should become טמא, because a כהן's holiness is permanent. The גמרא then starts comparing other kinds of people, beginning with a כהן גדול anointed with שמן המשחה, and that discussion continues on the next amud.
