Vows using the word חולין and רבי מאיר's view on inferring a positive from a negative; then linking a vow to שלמים meat after זריקת דמים
Overview
The גמרא brings a ברייתא about vows that use the word חולין (ordinary food). It says the first part follows רבי מאיר, who does not draw a positive conclusion from a negative statement. It then challenges the last part. In a משנה, רבי מאיר forbids 'לקרבן לא אוכל לך', because רבי אבא reads it as 'let it be a קרבן, so I won't eat it.' By the same reading, 'לחולין לא אוכל לך' should also be forbidden. The first answer is that the ברייתא's תנא agrees with רבי מאיר about inference but disagrees with him about the קרבן case. רב אשי answers instead that the wording differs: plain 'לחולין' is permitted, but 'לא לחולין' means 'like a קרבן' and is forbidden. The גמרא then turns to the משנה's list of טהור, טמא, נותר and פיגול. רמי בר חמא asks about someone who points to שלמים meat after זריקת דמים and says 'this is like that.' The question is whether he means the meat's original forbidden status or its current permitted status. רבא begins a proof from נותר and פיגול, and the proof continues on the next amud.
