Whether a vow linked to an offering attaches to its original forbidden status or to its current status
Overview
The גמרא tries to prove that a person who links his vow to an offering is pointing to its original forbidden status, from before the blood was sprinkled. First it brings the משנה's case of 'like נותר, like פיגול', since these only exist after זריקת דמים. רב הונא בריה דרב נתן answers that the משנה may mean נותר of an עולה, which stays forbidden as קרבן. When רבא asks why the משנה didn't just say 'meat of an עולה', the גמרא explains the משנה's 'לא מיבעיא' style: the נותר and פיגול case teaches that the vow is not linked to a Torah prohibition, a דבר האסור. Next the גמרא brings a ברייתא about vowing 'like the day my father died', with שמואל's comment. At first it seems to show that the vow reaches back to the original day despite many permitted days since. The proof falls away once שמואל's real wording is given: he kept the vow every year from that day on. Finally רבינא opens a new proof from the משנה about חלת אהרן and תרומת לחמי תודה, which continues on the next amud.
