נדר שהותר מקצתו according to רבה and רבא, and נדרי אונסין: whether a condition missed because of אונס still takes effect
Overview
Before this amud, רבה and רבא argued about exactly where רבי עקיבא and רבנן disagree on a vow that was partly undone. The גמרא first finishes a ברייתא about a basket of figs that turned out to hold בנות שוח. It tries to use that ברייתא against רבא, and then defends רבא by reading the man's words as 'the whole basket is forbidden.' Next it asks who taught a ברייתא about a vow against five people, and shows how each part fits according to רבה and according to רבא. A new משנה then defines נדרי אונסין, meaning vows that could not be kept because of sickness or a river. In the גמרא, a man said his court documents would become void if he did not return in thirty days. He was held back by אונס, and רב הונא rules the documents are void. רבא disagrees, because the תורה exempts an אנוס, and he proves this applies even outside capital cases from our משנה. The גמרא then challenges רבא from a conditional גט where the husband died, and begins an answer that continues on the next amud.
Opening lines
וְהָיוּ בָּהּ בְּנוֹת שׁוּחַ,
and there were בנות שוח in it,
וְאָמַר: ״אִילּוּ הָיִיתִי יוֹדֵעַ
and he said: 'Had I known
שֶׁבְּנוֹת שׁוּחַ בְּתוֹכָהּ,
that there were בנות שוח inside it,
לֹא הָיִיתִי נוֹדֵר״ —
I would not have vowed'
