Nedarim 28b: the wording and exact case of the משנה's conditional vows on saplings and a garment, and how long the 'no redemption' rule lasts.

Overview

The amud opens with the last words of the משנה: saplings that are קרבן 'until they are cut down,' or a garment that is קרבן 'until it is burned,' have no פדיון. The גמרא first asks why the משנה talks about 'redemption' instead of simply saying 'holy' and 'not holy.' It answers that the first clause copies the wording of the second clause, which had to use redemption language. Then אמימר explains the exact vow in the first case: 'if they are not cut down today,' and the day passed. The גמרא asks why that is not obvious, and answers that a strong wind was blowing, or for the garment, a fire was burning. The משנה teaches that even though he expected to lose the item anyway, his vow is real. Finally, the גמרא asks whether 'no redemption' lasts forever. בר פדא says the holiness keeps coming back until the saplings are cut, and after that one redemption is enough. עולא says that once they are cut, no redemption is needed at all.
