Separating תרומה for someone else (consent and טובת הנאה), and teaching Torah to someone under a vow of benefit
Overview
The amud opens with a question. When a person separates תרומה from his own produce for his friend's produce, does he need the friend's consent? The גמרא tries to prove the answer from our משנה, which lets a man under a vow (מודר הנאה) separate his fellow's תרומות and מעשרות 'לדעתו'. That proof is pushed away with רבא's case of an owner who says anyone may come and separate תרומה. Next, רבי ירמיה asks רבי זירא who holds the טובת הנאה, meaning the right to choose the כהן: the one who gives the produce, or the owner of the pile? רבי זירא answers from a פסוק that it is the owner of the pile. רבי ירמיה challenges this from the משנה, and the same open-invitation case answers him. Then a ruling of רבי יוחנן says the separator holds the טובת הנאה, and the גמרא gives no reply. Finally, the גמרא turns to the משנה's rule that one may teach the man under the vow מדרש but not מקרא. שמואל explains it as a place where only מקרא teachers are paid, and the גמרא asks why the משנה then states it as a flat rule.
