Vegetable vows in שביעית, vows on related foods, and singular versus plural wording in vows on wheat and beans

Overview

The גמרא first limits the earlier משנה about someone who vows off 'vegetables' during שביעית. That person may still eat garden vegetables, but only where people do not bring vegetables in from חוץ לארץ. This ruling fits one side of a dispute between תנאים about whether such importing is allowed, and רבי ירמיה explains the stricter view: a clod of impure earth might come along. Then a new משנה teaches how far a vow on one food reaches to related foods: cabbage and ispargus, pounded beans and their stew, stew and its garlic, and lentils and אשישים. In each pair a vow on the basic item reaches the related item, but not the other way around. רבי יוסי is lenient in the dish cases. The משנה then deals with vows on wheat and pounded beans, and רבי יהודה allows chewing them raw. The גמרא brings a ברייתא of רבי שמעון בן גמליאל showing that the singular word, the plural word, or both together each forbid different forms of the food. The פרק of הנודר מן המבושל then closes with הדרן.
