Permitted growths cancelling a forbidden original plant, the close of פרק הנודר מן הירק, and the new משנה on vows limited by time, with רבי ירמיה's rule that a 'today' vow needs release from a חכם

Overview

The גמרא finishes its discussion of whether permitted growths can cancel out a forbidden original plant of תרומה. It is challenged from a משנה that says growths of תרומה are still תרומה, and from a משנה about טבל. It answers by narrowing the case: we mean growths of growths, even in plants like onions whose seed stays whole, and specifically where those growths became bigger than the original part. Then the פרק הנודר מן הירק ends with a הדרן. A new משנה begins about a קונם vow on wine tied to time: 'today', 'this week', 'this month', 'this year', or 'this seven-year cycle' end with that calendar unit. Saying 'one day' or 'one week' instead runs a full measured period. Vows 'until פסח' depend on the exact wording, and רבי מאיר and רבי יוסי disagree about 'until before פסח'. The גמרא then quotes רבי ירמיה, who says a 'today' vow still needs release from a חכם at nightfall. רב יוסף explains that this is a rabbinic safeguard so that people do not confuse 'today' with 'one day'.

The growths of תרומה are תרומה!

בְּגִידּוּלֵי גִידּוּלִין קָאָמְרִינַן.

We are speaking about growths of growths.
