How a shared הפרה works (cutting off a share or weakening the vow), and whether a חכם can undo a husband's הקמה or הפרה, including repeated and linked declarations
Overview
The amud opens by finishing a ברייתא about a betrothed girl whose father and husband share the power to cancel her vow. If the father cancelled and the husband died before hearing, the father cancels only the husband's share. רבי נתן says that is the view of בית שמאי, while בית הלל say he cannot do it that way. From this the גמרא concludes that for בית שמאי one partner's הפרה cuts off his half (מיגז גייז), but for בית הלל it only weakens the whole vow (מקלש קליש). Then רבא asks whether a חכם can undo a husband's הקמה, and if so, whether he can undo a הפרה. רבי יוחנן answers that a הקמה can be undone but a הפרה cannot. רבה asks what happens if the husband said 'קיים ליכי' twice and only the first was undone. The answer, from a rule of רבא, is that the second one then takes effect. Finally רבה asks about a husband who upholds and cancels together and makes the הקמה depend on the הפרה. That question continues on the next amud.
Opening lines
שָׁמַע אָבִיהָ וְהֵפֵר לָהּ,
If her father heard and nullified the vow for her,
וְלֹא הִסְפִּיק הַבַּעַל לִשְׁמוֹעַ עַד שֶׁמֵּת
and the husband did not manage to hear of it before he died,
חוֹזֵר הָאָב וּמֵפֵר חֶלְקוֹ שֶׁל בַּעַל.
the father goes back and nullifies the husband's portion.
אָמַר רַבִּי נָתָן: הֵן הֵן דִּבְרֵי בֵּית שַׁמַּאי.
Rabbi Natan said: This is the statement of Beit Shammai.
