רב פפא's questions about יד (an incomplete statement that hints at a full one) in קידושין and in פאה
Overview
The גמרא continues discussing ידות, incomplete statements that point to a full statement. רב פפא asks whether יד works for קידושין. The case is a man who betroths one woman and then says to another woman only 'and you.' That could mean 'you too' or 'you, watch.' The גמרא challenges whether רב פפא could really have been unsure, since elsewhere he seems to accept יד for קידושין. It answers that there he was only asking about שמואל's view. רב פפא then asks the same question about פאה, where someone said 'and this' about a second furrow without saying 'too.' Along the way the גמרא learns, and proves from a ברייתא, that a person may make his entire field פאה. Finally it lays out both sides of רב פפא's question: does פאה's comparison to קרבנות give it יד, or does that comparison teach only the rule of בל תאחר? The גמרא then begins to quote the ברייתא that is the source of the comparison, and that continues on the next amud.
