Who the משנה of ערב פסח follows, and the argument over stopping a meal when שבת or יום טוב begins
Overview
Our משנה says that on ערב פסח, from close to מנחה time, a person may not eat until nightfall. A ברייתא was brought against רב פפא's explanation of the משנה. The גמרא first suggests the ברייתא is a faulty text, but מרימר testifies that it was accepted as reliable. So רב פפא is rejected, and the גמרא goes back to רב הונא: the משנה follows רבי יוסי. Then רב הונא is challenged from רבי יוחנן's ruling that the הלכה follows רבי יהודה on ערב פסח, which seems to show that רבי יוסי argues there too. The גמרא answers that their argument is only about stopping a meal already in progress (הפסקה), not about starting one. A ברייתא proves this argument exists and tells the story in עכו, where the הלכה was fixed like רבי יוסי. Finally, שמואל rules like neither side: you spread a cloth and make קידוש. The גמרא begins challenging this from another statement of שמואל, and that challenge continues on the next amud.
