A גוי's חמץ in a Jew's possession, tax animals and dough (בכורה and חלה), safeguards against eating חמץ, and the thirty-day rule before פסח

Overview

The amud begins by finishing an earlier discussion. A Jew who guaranteed a גוי's חמץ is responsible for it, and the גמרא explains why the פסוק ״לא ימצא״ is needed according to both views of whether something that can cause a money loss counts as one's own property. Next, רבא is asked whether an animal from a herd under the royal tax (ארנונא) is obligated in בכורה. Two versions of his answer are given. In the second version the animal is exempt but tax dough is obligated in חלה, because people know about the animal and not about the dough. A ברייתא then lays out when a Jew must remove a גוי's חמץ from his property. רב פפא and רב אשי disagree about which case its פסוק proves, and the גמרא explains why a room given to a גוי is excluded. Several rulings of רב יהודה in the name of רב follow: covering חמץ found on יום טוב, putting a partition around a גוי's חמץ, and exempting הקדש from both. Then comes the rule for a traveler who leaves within thirty days of פסח, along with אביי's and רבא's different readings of it and רבא's parallel ruling on a storehouse. The amud ends by tracing the thirty days to the practice of studying הלכות פסח and asks for the reason behind the תנא קמא. The answer comes on the next amud.
