Does the ציץ make a קרבן פסח acceptable when it turns out the owner was impure because of זיבה? A proof from a ברייתא of רבי יוסי, its rejection, and a challenge to that rejection.

Overview

This amud begins in the middle of a ברייתא of רבי יוסי. A שומרת יום כנגד יום had a פסח offered for her on her watching day and then saw blood. She may not eat it, but she is exempt from פסח שני. The גמרא suggests the reason is that the ציץ made her קרבן acceptable. It rejects this: רבי יוסי holds that her new impurity starts only from now on (מכאן ולהבא), so she was pure when the פסח was offered. The גמרא then challenges this with another ברייתא where רבי יוסי says such people make משכב ומושב impure retroactively. It answers that the retroactive impurity is only מדרבנן, and it proves this from the exchange between רבי אושעיא and רבי יוחנן. Next, the גמרא asks what רבי חייא's rule ('טומאת התהום only for a מת') excludes according to רבי יוסי. It tries to prove from this that טומאת התהום is permitted for a כהן, but that proof is rejected. It also shows how a full זבה is possible under רבי יוסי. Finally, רב יוסף asks whether טומאת התהום is permitted for a כהן offering the תמיד, and רבה begins a קל וחומר that continues on the next amud.

Opening lines

בַּשֵּׁנִי שֶׁלָּהּ,

on her second day,

וְאַחַר כָּךְ רָאֲתָה —

and afterward she saw [blood] —

אֵינָהּ אוֹכֶלֶת,

she does not eat,

וּפְטוּרָה מִלַּעֲשׂוֹת פֶּסַח שֵׁנִי.

and she is exempt from performing the second Pesach.

The steps (18)
