Who has a share in עולם הבא: the דור המדבר, the עשרת השבטים, and young children
Overview
The amud opens by finishing the story of קרח's group, who admit from inside גיהנם that משה and his תורה are true. Next comes the משנה's line that the דור המדבר has no share in עולם הבא. A ברייתא shows this is רבי עקיבא's view. רבי אליעזר and רבי שמעון בן מנסיא say they do have a share, and רבי יהושע בן קרחה reads רבי אליעזר's proof פסוק as being about later righteous people. A new משנה argues over whether the עשרת השבטים will return, and a ברייתא extends the argument to whether they have a share in עולם הבא. Both times רבי יוחנן says רבי עקיבא 'left his kindness.' The גמרא then shows that kindness: רבי עקיבא holds that young children of wicked Jews do come to עולם הבא, against רבן גמליאל. The amud ends with several views on the age from which a child has a share: from conception, from birth, from מילה, from when he speaks, or from when he says אמן.
