Then the גמרא turns to the הלכה. רבה בר בר חנה reports that רבי יוחנן said 'they said the הלכה follows רבי שמעון'. That report is tested against רבי יוחנן's ruling about a hen's roost, which is explained through a series of narrower cases. A later report from רב יצחק says רבי יוחנן ruled like רבי יהודה. רב יוסף explains that 'אמרו' meant רבי יוחנן was only quoting others. אביי brings the story of a fallen candelabrum as earlier proof, but רב יוסף answers that a candelabrum is forbidden even for רבי שמעון because it has a fixed place. אביי then begins a challenge from a groom's canopy, which continues on the next amud.
