Overview

This amud finishes a ברייתא about paying an עם הארץ with money that carries קדושת שביעית. You may give him only enough for three meals, and only for produce from an ownerless (מופקר) field. Produce from a guarded (משומר) field may not be bought from him at all. רב ששת challenges this from a משנה that allows buying wild plants 'from any person'. He answers that the משנה also means only a food-amount (כדי מן), and רבי יוחנן says the same. The גמרא proves from a פסוק in דניאל that 'מן' means food. The גמרא then asks why the same rule does not forbid buying a לולב, and answers that the לולב grew in the sixth year. It asks the same about the אתרוג and answers that an אתרוג follows its picking. The גמרא challenges this from a משנה in ביכורים, which says that for שביעית an אתרוג follows tree rules (budding). The discussion continues on the next amud.
