Whether שביעית holiness transfers by חילול or only by מקח (רב אשי's two versions), then רבן יוחנן בן זכאי's תקנות of זכר למקדש: לולב for seven days and the whole of יום הנף.

Overview

The amud opens by finishing the debate between רבי יוחנן and רבי אלעזר. The question is whether the קדושה of שביעית moves to a new item only by מקח (purchase), or also by חילול (redemption). רב אשי first says they argue only about פרי ראשון, the original fruit. רבינא disproves this from a ברייתא about a סלע of שביעית, where only a purchase works. So רב אשי flips his view: they argue only about פרי שני, and for the original fruit everyone requires מקח. A ברייתא that says 'שביעית' can be redeemed onto animals is read as דמי שביעית, the money of שביעית, just as 'מעשר' in the same ברייתא must mean מעשר money. Then a new משנה teaches two תקנות of רבן יוחנן בן זכאי after the חורבן: taking the לולב for seven days everywhere, and forbidding חדש for all of יום הנף. The גמרא learns the idea of זכר למקדש from the פסוק 'ציון היא דורש אין לה'. It then explains the יום הנף rule as a safeguard for when the מקדש is rebuilt. Finally, רב נחמן בר יצחק says the rule follows רבי יהודה, who holds that the prohibition is from the Torah; his proof verse continues on the next amud.
