The end of the ברייתא on a child's stages, the close of פרק לולב הגזול, and the opening משנה of פרק לולב וערבה on how many days each סוכות מצוה lasts and the לולב on שבת.

Overview

This amud finishes a ברייתא that lists the stages of a growing child, where each new ability brings a new law. A child who knows how to slaughter may have his שחיטה eaten, and רב הונא adds that a גדול must supervise. Once a child can eat a כזית of grain, one must keep four אמות from his waste before praying. רב חסדא adds that he must eat it within כדי אכילת פרס, and רב חייא בריה דרב ייבא says an adult's waste counts even without that condition. A child who can eat a כזית of roasted meat may be counted for the קרבן פסח, but רבי יהודה requires that he can also tell food from non-food. Then comes the הדרן for פרק לולב הגזול. A new פרק opens with a משנה listing how many days each סוכות מצוה lasts, and it explains when the לולב and ערבה are done six or seven days. It describes how the לולב was handled in the מקדש when the first day fell on שבת, and how בית דין moved the מצוה home because of the danger. The גמרא asks why the לולב does not always override שבת, and רבה begins to answer with a גזירה that continues on the next amud.
