הלל after rain on a fast day, the end of the third perek, and the משנה on ברכת כהנים, the מעמדות, the wood-offering days, and the five tragedies of the summer fasts
Overview
The amud opens by finishing a rule. If rain comes before midday on a fast day, people go home and eat first, because הלל is said only on a full stomach. The גמרא challenges this from a story where רב פפא had people say הלל first. It answers that the people of מחוזא were different, since they tended to get drunk. Then the third perek ends with a הדרן, and a new perek begins. Its משנה lists three times when כהנים bless four times in one day, and explains the מעמדות: groups who stood at the daily offering for all of ישראל, fasted Monday to Thursday, and read the Creation story each day. It lists which days some מעמד gatherings were skipped, where רבי עקיבא changes his version to follow בן עזאי. It also lists the nine family days for bringing wood to the מזבח. The amud ends as the משנה begins listing the five tragedies of שבעה עשר בתמוז and תשעה באב, a list that continues on the next amud.
