Topic
Whether בית דין takes back interest, and what אביי and רבא really argue about. Then, the prohibitions on blemished animals for the מזבח and why 'לה׳' is needed to include the שעיר המשתלח.
Overview
The amud opens with a ruling: אבק רבית is not taken back by בית דין, and רבי יוחנן says even רבית קצוצה is not. The גמרא had tried to link this to the argument of אביי and רבא about whether a forbidden act still takes effect. It rejects that link, because the interest argument comes from פסוקים. Three sources are brought for רבי יוחנן, and one source, 'וחי אחיך עמך', is brought for רבי אלעזר. So what do אביי and רבא argue about? One version says they argue only about the general starting rule. Another version says they argue about returning רבית קצוצה, but אביי's own case of the cloak shows he also takes it back, so the גמרא returns to the first answer. Then a new topic begins: a ברייתא lists the prohibitions on bringing a blemished animal to the מזבח, and it uses 'לה׳' to include the שעיר המשתלח. רבא explains why another ברייתא uses the same word to exclude it. The גמרא then asks why 'לה׳' is needed at all, since the lottery only works on fit animals. רב יוסף and רבא each answer with a case where a goat becomes the שעיר המשתלח without a lottery.
