Why the case of a mother raped by one's father (אמו אנוסת אביו) is missing from the משנה: רב אדא קרחינא's and רב אשי's explanations, and לוי's ברייתא
Overview
The amud opens with a memory aid that closes the earlier discussion. That discussion showed that רבי חייא's rules fit every case in the משנה, even according to רבי שמעון. The גמרא then asks how to explain רבי's sharp answer to לוי, who wanted to add the case of a mother raped by one's father. רב אדא קרחינא, quoting רבא, says רבי accepts the rules, and this case never fits two of them at once. He shows this with two sisters and with two unrelated women. רב אשי says instead that רבי does not hold of the rules. In his view the משניות follow רבי יהודה, who forbids a woman raped by one's father to all the brothers, and he proves this from the next משנה's list of six severe women. רבינא and רב אשי then suggest cases where she could still fall to her son. The answers are that the משנה does not list cases that need a forbidden marriage or a ממזר brother. Finally, the גמרא notes that לוי still included 'his mother' in his own ברייתא and begins quoting it.
