רב and שמואל on a קטנה who grew up, the נרש story, and a new משנה on freeing a צרה when the widows are minors or deaf

Overview

The amud opens in the middle of a dispute between רב and שמואל about a girl married as a קטנה who grew up, after which another man married her. The גמרא explains that the case is one where the first husband lived with her after she grew up. שמואל still holds the marriage is only rabbinic, because כל הבועל על דעת קידושין הראשונים הוא בועל. The גמרא asks why רב and שמואל argue about this again, since they already disagree about קידושין made on a condition. It answers צריכא: each case was needed. Then a story from נרש seems to show that רב's students did not require the husband to live with her. רב פפא answers that in נרש living together came before the bridal chair. רב אשי answers instead that the רבנן cancelled the snatcher's קידושין, and the ruling follows רבי אליעזר. A new משנה teaches when יבום or חליצה with one widow frees her צרה, depending on whether the wives are minors, deaf, or fully competent. The גמרא asks how a deaf woman can do חליצה at all. רבא distinguishes a woman deaf from the start from one who became deaf later, and אביי begins an objection to רבא that continues on the next amud.
