The three things to cling to and to avoid, the meaning of תוקע עצמו לדבר הלכה, and רבן גמליאל's reason about a minor's קידושין and her sister the יבמה.
Overview
The גמרא finishes explaining a ברייתא about three things to cling to and three things to stay away from. רבי אבהו shows from the word 'pursue' that pursuing peace is a great מצוה. רבי נתן's teaching explains why annulling vows is praised. Next the גמרא gives a short reason for avoiding מיאונין, פקדונות from a fellow townsman, and ערבי שלציון. רבי יצחק reads a פסוק as warning about those who accept converts, ערבי שלציון, and one who is תוקע עצמו לדבר הלכה. The גמרא explains that last phrase in several ways: through רבי יוסי's teaching about Torah without doing, or as a judge who compares cases instead of asking his teacher. Then the גמרא returns to the משנה and asks רב for רבן גמליאל's reason. רב answers that the minor's קידושין become complete only after relations once she is an adult. רב ששת challenges this, רבין defends it, and the גמרא then points to another ruling of רב that seems to contradict it. The discussion of that contradiction continues on the next amud.
