Two widows of different statuses, the halacha like רבי אלעזר on מיאון, a minor יבם, and when חליצה is forced
Overview
This amud finishes a משנה about a man who died and left two widows. The יבם had relations with one widow, and then he or his brother had relations with the other. Whether the first widow may stay depends on each woman's status: a קטנה, a חרשת, a פקחת or a גדולה. רבי אלעזר says a קטנה who would be disqualified is taught to do מיאון, and the גמרא rules like him and explains why that ruling was needed in two places. A new משנה then rules that a minor יבם stays with his יבמה. It also teaches when בית דין forces חליצה and when it only asks for it: when she says the marriage was never completed, and when she vowed not to benefit from him. The גמרא concludes that this משנה does not follow רבי מאיר. It then proves from פסוקים and from רבא's reasoning that a minor can do יבום. Finally, the גמרא asks which תנא holds the thirty-day rule. רבי יוחנן says רבי מאיר, and רבה begins to show it could even fit רבי יוסי, a point that continues on the next amud.
