A יבמה who says the ייבום never happened: חליצה, גט, and the rival wife. Then whether a vow against all Jews also covers the יבם.

Overview

The amud opens with the last words of an answer from the previous page: in the first thirty days the יבם may simply be too shy with the יבמה, so her claim that nothing happened is believable. The גמרא asks why the court forces חליצה instead of forcing him to finish the ייבום. רב answers that he already gave her a גט. A ברייתא seems to challenge רב. רבי אמי and רב אשי each give a way to answer it. In a real case, רבא first rules that חליצה alone is enough. When רב שרביא quotes the ברייתא requiring a גט and חליצה, רבא accepts it. רב נחמן then rules that this woman's claim does not make her rival wife (צרה) forbidden. Next the גמרא turns to the woman who vows against her יבם. It quotes a משנה from נדרים about three claims that once let a wife leave with her כתובה, until the חכמים tightened the rules. That leads to a question: does the vow 'I am withdrawn from the Jews' also cover the יבם? רב says no, שמואל says yes, and אביי begins a proof for רב that continues on the next amud.

Opening lines

מִיבְזָז בְּזִיז מִינַּהּ.

He is embarrassed with her.

עַד שֶׁכּוֹפִין אוֹתוֹ לַחְלוֹץ —

Rather than forcing him to perform חליצה,

נִיכְפֶּנּוּ לְיַיבֵּם!

let us force him to perform ייבום!
