Topic
Proof of adulthood from childbirth; the rules of צרת ערוה (צרת צרה, divorce of the ערוה, מיאון); and the six stricter עריות
Overview
This amud covers several short topics. First, רב זביד explains that a girl who gave birth must already have the סימנים of adulthood. We cannot simply check her, because the hairs may have fallen out, especially from צער לידה. Next, the גמרא asks for the source that even a צרת צרה is exempt from יבום. רב יהודה learns it from the extra ר in לצרור, and רב אשי says it is simple סברא. Then the גמרא sets our משנה against a משנה about three brothers, which seems to require that the ערוה be divorced before the צרה was married. רבי ירמיה says two תנאים disagree, while רבא says it is one תנא teaching an easier case and a harder case. The גמרא then asks why a minor ערוה cannot do מיאון after the death to free her צרה, and explains that a צרת ערוה is set by how things looked at the moment of נפילה. Finally, a new משנה lists six stricter עריות whose צרות are permitted, and records that בית שמאי permit צרות to the brothers while בית הלל forbid them.
Opening lines
וְרַב זְבִיד אָמַר:
And Rav Zevid said:
אֵין בָּנִים בְּלֹא סִימָנִים.
There are no children without signs of adulthood.
וְנִבְדּוֹק!
But let us examine her!
חָיְישִׁינַן שֶׁמָּא נָשְׁרוּ.
We are concerned that perhaps they fell out.
